Up until now electric cars have been larger than I want, so this is a car I can't wait to try. I dont think we can belive anything this man says. But automakers are making a lot of strides with electric vehicles.

Every year, new electric vehicles debut with more range and functionality. You can tell how far along things have come by checking out the Fiat e and comparing it to other EVs. But in this particular case, the comparison isn't favorable for Fiat.

The e's limiting factor is its battery. The kWh pack is good for just 84 miles of range. Back when the e debuted inthat distance was par for the course. Nowadays, newer rivals can go two or three times as far. The e is also out-of-date when it comes to having the latest infotainment and safety features.

Still, it has a few positive attributes. The e's compact size makes it easy to park and maneuver in crowded urban centers. If all you want is basic, low-cost EV transportation, you'll find a willing companion in the e. But rivals such as the Chevrolet Bolt, Hyundai Kona Electric and Nissan Leaf offer more utility and range, making them far more practical choices. The Fiat e is a two-door, pure electric hatchback sold in a single, well-equipped trim. The gasoline-powered Fiat is reviewed separately.

The e is powered by an kilowatt electric motor horsepower, pound-feet of torque channeled to the front wheels through a single-speed automatic transmission.

A rechargeable kWh lithium-ion battery pack powers the motor. The EPA estimates the e can travel up to 84 miles on a full charge. Fiat says a typical volt outlet will charge the e from empty in 24 hours, while a Level 2 charger will do the job in about four hours.

It doesn't wander. It doesn't skip down the road like a pickup truck on a dirt road.Like the LEAF, if you step on it quickly especially while turninghandling is a bit wobbly. Still, the Fiat e beats the pants off of a gasmobile anywhere near it in price. And I think the mix of cute and sporty make the e a great buy for the more masculine or feminine types.

The back seat is tight … really tight. The front seats are okay, but certainly more on the cozy side of things. And the trunk is tiny. This pretty much eliminates the e as a family car in my book.

Understandable, imho. The navigation system on the e is a bit old school. Of course, another big downside of the e is no DC fast charging.
